Group Awards

Advocacy Award of Excellence
The purpose of this award is to promote advocacy at local PTAs, community PTAs, and councils by recognizing programs, projects, and activities/events that increase awareness of and participation in advocacy issues at the school, local community, council, region, state, and national level. What does advocacy mean to your local PTA or council?

Family and Community Engagement Award of Excellence
The purpose of this award is to promote family and community engagement at local PTAs, community PTAs, and councils by recognizing programs, projects, and activities/events that increase family and community engagement and involvement. What does family and community engagement look like at your local PTA or council?

Outstanding Communication Strategy
The Outstanding Communications Strategy Award recognizes local PTA and council use of all forms of communication. Use of multiple forms of communication is important in reaching all of the membership and/or community served.

Outstanding Newsletter
The Outstanding Newsletter Award recognizes local PTA and council newsletters as they are an important and effective form of communication.

Outstanding PTA of the Year
The WSPTA Programs Committee will select the Outstanding PTA of the Year. Eligibility for consideration of the designation of Outstanding PTA of the Year will be based on all PTAs that earn a Standards of Excellence award.

WSPTA will select one elementary PTA and one secondary PTA for an Outstanding PTA of the Year Award. Each PTA will receive a $1,000 grant.

Outstanding Website
The Outstanding Website Award recognizes local PTA and council websites as effective forms of communication.

PTAs Taking Significant Action
The purpose of the PTAs Taking Significant Action Award is to recognize the accomplishments of local PTAs and councils across the state that present programs, projects, and activities that show significant originality, involvement, potential, usefulness and results. These programs are things that other PTAs and councils may want to replicate.

Standards of Excellence
The Standards of Excellence Award is a tool to encourage the use of the best practices of PTA management. If your local PTA or council has not participated in awards, the Standards of Excellence is a great place to start. Participating in the Standards of Excellence could be used as a reporting tool to your members.

Individual Awards

Golden Acorn
A Golden Acorn Award is presented by a local PTA or council to a school or community volunteer in recognition of her or his dedication and service to children and youth. Since the beginning of this program in the 1930s, more than 54,000 Golden Acorn Awards have been presented to volunteers throughout Washington state. Recipients receive a certificate and pin, and a contribution is made in their name to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Program that benefits students.

Honorary Life Membership

It is awarded to someone who has shown extraordinary commitment to the PTA’s vision and mission. Outstanding Advocate
The Outstanding Advocate Award was established in 2004 to recognize an individual for his or her advocacy and commitment in helping to create strong policies relating to the health, welfare, safety and education of children and youth.
